For college students today the stress levels are much higher than those of people not attending college.  College is one of the stressful points in a person’s life, followed by raising a child and planning for retirement.  Some of the most important issues facing a college student are: getting good grades, making friends, choosing a major that could lead to a good job and successful career.  All of these things tend to make college students stressed out.  According to a MSN article “Stress love to know”, one out of four students experienced daily stress and one in ten students had thoughts of suicide.

In speaking with college students, most of their stress comes from procrastination.  In that same sense the issue at hand would be time management, college should help students learn how to manage their time well.  However in the fun that college brings it seems as though sometimes out of the main three: good grades, social life, and sleep they can only have two at the same time.   “I stress about final exams because I realize if I do not perform well then my final grade will not reflect the hard work that I’ve put in over the entire semester” said student athlete Jasmine Deberry.

Some cures for stress include: getting enough sleep, getting in some exercise, making time for fun activities, and time for studies as well.   On Wingate University’s campus we have many resources for this type of thing, the counseling services, student success coaches, and even the residence life student staff are all available during times of need.
