A legacy was born for J.E. and Mildred Drew Saturday Sept. 14 at Wingate University. The Camden Promenade Fountain was dedicated to the Drews at a ceremony Saturday.

J.E. and Mildred Drew were students of the 1952 class at Wingate. J.E and Mildred were exceptional students, as well as pillars in the town of Wingate. They met at Wingate, fell in love at Wingate and continue to show their support of the university.

J.E and his family continue to give back to Wingate University as well as many other small communities in Eastern North Carolina. Because of their dedication and service, Drew and his family were honored with the dedication of Drew Fountain in Camden Promenade.

This fountain was presented by Lee Ragsdale, the Associate Vice President for Resource Development. Ragsdale was able to give great insight into the work the Drew family has done and continues to do.

Ragsdale shared with the Drew family his respect for them and described the many things that J.E and Mildred continue to do for the University, as well as other communities such as Mt. Olive and giving home to Southern Bank.

J.E. and Mildred accepted this dedication surrounded by children and grandchildren. President Dr. Jerry McGee was also present. As students of today and tomorrow pass by the beautiful fountain, they will be reminded that just as they walk our campus, J.E and Mildred did too.
